CAPITAL: a daily geography puzzle

CAPITAL is a daily geography puzzle. You see the outline of a country and have six guesses to name its capital city.

A wrong guess tells you how far your city is from the answer, which direction to head in, and whether you are on the right continent.

Each miss also unlocks a clue, in this order: the continent, the population, the main language, the first letter, and finally the number of letters. The fewer clues you need, the more you score.

Common questions

How many guesses do I get?

Six.

What about countries with more than one capital?

Any of its official capitals is accepted. South Africa, Bolivia and the Netherlands are examples.

Do I have to spell the city exactly?

Common English spellings and the usual local variants are accepted.

Is this the same country as today’s OUTLINE?

No. The three geography games are scheduled so that they do not feature the same country in the same week.

How is CAPITAL scored?

Out of 1,000. A first-guess answer scores most; each clue you need lowers the total.

A new puzzle every day

CAPITAL has one puzzle a day, released at midnight UK time and the same for everyone. It is free, and you can play without an account. Finish it to keep your streak going and to see where you stand on the leaderboards.
